Congratulations to all of us for the awesome 45th Anniversary Quilt Show. Someone told me, “it takes a village”. First, the Quilt Show Committee co-chaired by Natalie Cummings and Sheila Green, was well organized and creative. Thanks to each committee member for volunteering. Kris Vierra displayed a special collection of her award winning quilts and garments. The gallery of quilts from Past Presidents was interesting to see how quilt styles had evolved over the past 45 years as well as exhibits from the Quilts of Valor, Cuddle Quilts and Discover Nebraska. There was a wonderful collection of quilts loaned to LQG by the Quilt House made by Helen Ericson in the 1970’s. Quilts shown by members were exceptional and those donated for auction were beautiful and much appreciated. There were many positive comments about the various lectures.
The “Quilt Mom” Carolyn Gardner, who sold tickets for the beautiful and fresh Raffle Quilt made by Vicky Skuodas and quilted by Joyce Nass, sold out. Yeah!!! Congratulations to LQG member Nancy Anderson for winning our raffle quilt!! It was so nice for her to witness the drawing first hand.

The Challenge Quilt winners for “Playing the Angles” were Vicky Bedell first place, second to Martha Turner and third to Patty Ozga. Each quilt was required to have the sapphire blue color and a 45 degree angle. AccuQuilt awarded Vicky with a Go! Baby and the 45 degree die.

The Lancaster County Fair winner of the Lincoln Quilters Guild “Best of Show” ribbon was awarded to Barb Bailey, pictured below. She received a $50 award and is eligible to enter the Nebraska State Fair. Her beautiful entry was hand quilted and took 300 hours to quilt.
There were 89 exhibits entered this year at the County Fair. The County Fair moved the Open Class Quilt Department to the Pavilion 1 building. For future fairs, Lancaster County Fair will always begin on the first Thursday of August. Next year the Lancaster County Fair will be held on August 1-4, 2019. Remember entries for 2019 can be from 2017, 2018 and 2019. Cynthia Levis, Lancaster County Fair Representative and LQG member, is grateful to the Lincoln Quilters Guild for entering exhibits and volunteering many hours.
On behalf of the Board, we have an exceptional guild because of our members who love quilting, doing good things for others, and who enjoy our friendships. “Volunteers are just ordinary people with extraordinary hearts. They offer the gift of their time to teach, to listen, to help, to inspire, to build, to grow, to learn. Volunteers are just ordinary people who reach out and take a hand and together make a difference….” (author unknown) To all our members THANK YOU!!!
See you at the August 13 meeting!!
